business administration and sports management from Washington State.
Now is a sales associate for Premera Blue Cross in north
Seattle.
Quote: “That was probably the last year of our prolific
offense. When we got a ball out of the defense and pushed forward
from the midfield it was surgical. That was something that was really
cool to watch.”
■ Killian Doherty (Soph.), POS — Recently
received master’s in Latin American marketing and economic
development from Georgetown University’s campus in Argentina.
Quote: “That team was very united and had a lot of time playing
soccer together.”
■ Justin Pitman (Sr.), DEF — Graduated
from University of Vermont medical school and is a Harvard emergency
medicine resident at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and
Women’s Hospital in Boston.
Quote: “The sense of teamsmanship,
and just the experience we went through together, was so much more
than just numbers on the scoreboard.”
■ Chris Gentry (Sr.), F
— Makes snowboards for Mervin Manufacturing in Carlsborg and
recently received an associate’s from Peninsula College in
information technology and networking infrastructure.
Quote: “We
had a really good coaching staff and a good team. Put that in a
blender and you get good stuff.”
■ Ryan Romero (Sr.), MF —
Played soccer for two years at Peninsula College. Now does excavation
and landscape work for three companies in Port Angeles/Sequim.
Quote:
“We knew we were going all the way. We expected to win.”

Tyson Young (Jr.), MF — Spent seven years in Aspen, Colo., teaching
tennis and snowboarding. Now lives in Los Angeles doing event
planning and stand-up comedy.
Quote: “Coach Soule really took a
bunch of us and really led some good discipline and got us in the
best shape of our lives.”
■ Ryan Trudeau (Sr.), MF —
Received master’s degree from Chicago School of Professional
Psychology. Now a family therapist at Institute for Family
Development in Seattle.
Quote: “We had just a good chemistry and
good bond amongst each other. That was probably the key to our
success, just knowing everyone, on the field and off.”
■ Chris
Dorcy (Jr.), MF — Graduated from Willamette University in Salem,
Ore. Now is a business continuity planner for The Capital Group
Companies in Santa Ana, Calif.
Quote: “Everybody was focused on
one goal. Nobody was selfish. It was more of a team thing.”

Henry Ochs (Soph.), DEF — Received associate in fire science from
College of the Siskiyous while playing football there. Now works for
CalFire out of Weed, Calif.
Quote: “It was a good group of
kids. It was fun. [I didn’t come in until] late in the game. . .
very late.”
■ Jamie Mendenhall (Sr.) GK — Started in goal
for Peninsula College for two years before a shoulder injury ended
his soccer career. Runs a kitchen at Stanford’s Restaurant and Bar
in Tukwila.
Quote: “We didn’t necessarily have a lot of
standout talent, but we played together for so long. Matt Clark was
my sweeper, and me and him just had an unspoken language.”

■ Gordon Thomson, Asst. coach — Retired
this summer after working several years as maintenance supervisor at
Crestwood Convalescent Center. Stepped down as assistant in
2004.
Quote: “That team was awesome. They were a great bunch of
young men, very easy to coach [and] intelligent. They learned really
fast, and they had all of the skills.”
■ Briana Hurst (Jr.),
Athletic trainer — Received a bachelors in exercise science and
psychology from Washington State. Now installs computers at
restaurants and bars in Scottsdale, Ariz., for Aloha POS.
Quote:
“I just remember it being a really fun group of guys. They were all
best friends with each other, and they were all athletic.”

Tim Lovell (Sr.), DEF — Works for Lisa Dupar Catering in Redmond
doing logistics and event execution.
Quote: “If I get a quote,
put in there that Conn Doherty is my hero.”
■ Damien Hare
(Sr.), MF — Works as the information technology manager for Lumber
Traders in Port Angeles. Still plays soccer locally for Mervin
Manufacturing.
Quote: “We were kind of on the same level. We
knew what the other person was going to do before they did it.”

Conn Doherty (Sr.), F — Played soccer for Worcester Polytechnic
Institute in Massachusetts. Received master’s in business
administration from UCLA. Now does research and development for
Raytheon Company in Hermosa Beach, Calif.
Quote: “Everything
came together in that one year. It was a pretty memorable moment.”

Chris Ochs (Sr.), DEF — Played basketball for Peninsula College.
Member of the Local 528 cement mason and plasterers union in
Seattle.
Quote: “We had a good defense, but a lot of times,
especially in league, we didn’t have to do much because the ball
was on the other half of the field. In league games, there were a lot
of times when I was kind of bored back there.”
■ Rick Smith
(Sr.), F — Played soccer one year at Skagit Valley Community
College. Now pursuing a bachelor’s in business administration and
accounting at Central Washington’s Lynnwood campus.
Quote: “We
just had the funnest time as a group of guys hanging out together,
playing together. Every day we took it upon ourselves to push each
other and work hard.”
■ Matt Clark (Sr.), DEF — Played
soccer four years at Pomona College in California while getting a
bachelor’s in political science. Now pursuing a second bachelor’s
in biology from Oregon State as a precursor to medical school.
Quote:
“It’s really difficult to disassociate my memories of Port
Angeles and high school from the soccer team, because it was so
encompassing. High school equals in a lot of ways soccer to me
because it was just a big part of every day life.”
■ Nathan
Smith (Jr.), MF — Worked with Ironworkers Local 86 building
skyscrapers in Seattle and Bellevue. Now in the process of moving
back to Port Angeles with his wife and two children.
Quote: “It
was just like a bunch of brothers out there really. We had our own
chants, our own songs that we sang. We all did the same things.”

Jordan Siemens (Sr.), MF — Attended the Art Institute of Seattle.
Now runs an outdoor photography business out of Portland, Ore.
Quote:
“Before every single game we would go find some sort of cliff or
some sort of waterfall and go jump off it. We actually made a video
out of it that one of the guys probably still has.”
■ Kyle
Trussell (Jr.), Stopper — Current assistant coach for the Port
Angeles boys soccer team. Also works with Storm King club
soccer.
Quote: “[Losing the state final] is the most depressing
feeling in the world because you know no team is going to get that
far for a long time. It was our chance to get history.”
■
Chris Saari, Asst. coach — The current Port Angeles varsity boys
soccer coach. Replaced Scott Soule after the 2004 season.
Quote:
“We played some teams in that state tournament that were probably
more skilled and better passing teams, but we were physical. We were
good at defending and it didn’t matter that they had possession of
the ball for the majority. We’d find a way to keep them off
the scoreboard, counterattack and score.”
■ Scott Soule, Head
coach — Stepped down as head coach in 2004 to be more involved in
his own children’s’ athletics. Now teaches at Stevens Middle
School and coaches its basketball and wrestling teams.
Quote: “You
always want to win, but probably more importantly, you want to be
proud of your kids, and they were a great team. They were competitive
as all get out, but at the same time nice kids. It was great.”
